Making the Most of the Rest of my Life

We as humans have little control over time and changes.  We can rest assured God, Himself, our Creator is in control.  We, as His children, were made for eternity.  This short trip through the physical is just that - A short walk compared to eternity in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.

Ecclestiases 3:11 tells us this:  "He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end."  This is important because old Solomon is saying that the God who created us in His own image also created us with a concern about the future.  Mankind was created with eternity in his heart!

Verse 12 says:  "I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live."  We should apply ourselves to doing good.  Doing good makes us happy.  Doing good makes us smile.  If we're not doing good, we won't be happy.  And if we're not happy, we're probably not doing good.

Verse 13 tells us:  "That everyone may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all his toil; this is the gift of God."  Every moment of life is a gift from God.  We didn't earn it.  We don't deserve it.  But God has given it to us as a gift.  So we're to enjoy it!

1st Timothy 6:17 says:  "God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment."  So we ought to reach out and grab it.  And make the most of the rest of our lives!

A Walk With Paul

In the Garden of Eden, at the time of the Fall of Mankind, we lost our God given 'spiritual' nature.  And we took on this 'human' nature or 'sinful' nature.  Just maybe that was God's plan all along.  Because, you see, mankind was given a Free Will there in the Garden.  We can either accept or reject Jesus.  We're not God's puppets on a string!

In Romans, Chapter 7, Paul talks about this 'sinful' nature and about how it affects all of us.  Paul is writing about sanctification - growing in our spiritual walk - growing in our 'holiness'.  Paul writes this after his conversion on the Damascus Road.  Yes, Paul, the great evangelist had feelings of being 'unspiritual'.

You say, Preacher, some days I just don't feel very spiritual.  Well, some days I don't either.  We get bombarded with life's problems & issues.  And we let our weaknesses rise to the top.  We let our human nature take front seat to our spiritual nature.

In the overall scheme of our existence, two forces are at work in our lives - good vs. evil.  It's a constant vicious cycle on this not so 'merry-go-round' of life.  Paul tells us in Ephesians "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."

How do we combat this 'sin nature' in our lives and be victorious?  Through prayer & reading God's Word.  We have to work at being spiritual.  We've got to be controlled by the Holy Spirit living inside us.  We can't be complacent.  We need to re-evaluate our absolutes.

It's how we handle sin as a believer that keeps us going.  How we handle our 'sin nature' keeps our faith strong.  I sin, you sin, Paul sinned.  But we ask for forgiveness and keep on going!  When we received Christ into our heart, we became the adopted sons & daughters of the Heavenly Father.  A brother or sister to Jesus Himself!  And when we asked Jesus into our hearts, we received power to combat sin.  And now we have the strength through the Holy Spirit to overcome our 'human' existence.

If you don't have a Church home, we welcome you to Bethel Baptist Church.  Come see us.  Just as you are.
